MediaCityUK is bringing forward a reserved matters application for Phase 2 of its development in Salford. This application will deal with the parts of the scheme that were not settled when the original outline planning permission was granted in 2006. This page tells you more about these plans and will be regularly updated throughout the application process.
The impact of MediaCityUK so far
Not only Salford, but Greater Manchester as a whole and the wider North West have benefited from the investment that has been made in MediaCityUK, and the jobs that it has helped to provide. The move of a significant amount of the BBC’s activities to MediaCityUK has contributed enormously to growth within the area, providing a total economic impact of £277 million gross value added (GVA) in 2014/2015 alone. The development of Phase 2 of the site will allow for the expansion and continuation of these successes.
Fulfilling the original vision for MediaCityUK
MediaCityUK was always conceived of as one destination to be developed over several phases. The first phase transformed the former docks, revitalising the area and attracting world-leading media talent and education facilities. The residential and commercial developments in Phase 2 represent the next step of realising the original vision for the creation of a community with the perfect balance of business, leisure, and residential uses. This will complement the existing world-class office and studio facilities and enhance their setting with attractive open spaces and greenery.
What’s next for MediaCityUK?
Phase 2 of MediaCityUK will provide new residential, commercial, and leisure developments which have been designed to sit alongside the existing buildings. These spaces will be linked with new, open public space.
There are nine plots to be developed in total, which are illustrated on the site plan on this page.
Our reserved matters application will be submitted to Salford City Council in Spring next year. The plots will be developed in phases, with the first building work expected to later in the year.
